Suspected armed robber killed during shoot-out with police in Ogun
During a gun duel between his gang and the police in Ikenne district, an armed robbery suspect was shot dead in the early hours of Monday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known on Tuesday, said that other gang members of the robbery syndicate escaped with gunshot wounds during the crossfire.

Oyeyemi said the meeting was followed by a distress call received at around 5 a.m. by officers at the Ikenne division headquarters that a group of armed robbers had blocked Olabiro Street in Ikenne and at gunpoint were dispossessing people of their valuables.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO Ikenne division, Noukauba Onuma quickly mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in gun battle which lasted for about 30 minutes at the end of which one of the hoodlums was shot dead while others escaped with various degree of gunshot injuries,”, Oyeyemi said

He said one cut to the size of a locally made rifle, one live cartridge and one spent cartridge was recovered from the dead robber.

Oyeyemi said Edward Ajogun, the police commissioner for Ogun State, thanked his men for their gallantry.

The Commissioner also said that this should be an alert signal to any criminal who is deluding themselves that the police are not working to have a rethink, as the command would go to any extent to protect the good citizens of the State of Ogun.

He also ordered that the gang’s escaping members be chased and brought to justice in the shortest possible time.
