A month after his wedding, Lieutenant Josiah Peter of the Nigerian Army lost his life in a clash between Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) officials and smugglers in Oyo state.
It was confirmed that the deceased soldier was scheduled to marry Mercy Chikodili Ogbonnaya at St Peter’s Military Church in Ikorodu, Lagos, on 13 December.
In addition, the couple had a little daughter who turned one on November 17, three days before her death.
Recall that the clash occurred on Friday, November 20, between Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Customs personnel and Zone A smugglers in Igbo-Ora city.
The smugglers targeted the customs officers and the Border Drill Patrol also came under assault in a rapid response to support the FOU team.
Lieutenant Peter was shot and died later. In the clash, two other people were reportedly killed.
